Our mission is to support the expansion of Manitoba’s protein industry, collaboratively working with all protein players in our joint pursuit of providing local sustainable protein here at home and around the world.

Manitoba is a global provider of high-quality proteins — our top 10 protein exports surpassed $8 billion dollars in 2022. ProteinMB aims to expand on this growth. Every day we work with industry leaders to promote Manitoba’s strengths, attract new and expanded investment, and show customers our commitment to social, economic, and environmental sustainability.

WHAT IS SUSTAINABLE PROTEIN?

Nourishing Tomorrow, Today!

Sustainable Protein is the initiative, sector, and approach that is responsible for the practices and impacts of agriculture and the food system on the world. Described by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO); Sustainable Protein is a level of production that meets our needs while aspiring to place minimal pressure and impact on the environment, promote all aspects of an individuals health and well being, be accessible and culturally acceptable, and be economically viable and affordable. To be sustainable, the protein value chain must meet the needs of present and future generations, while ensuring profitability, environmental health, and social and economic equity.

In Manitoba, animal, plant, insect, and cellular proteins when produced sustainably can complement each other to address global food security. Overall, sustainable protein is a critical component of a balanced diet that aligns with ecological stewardship and ethical treatment of animals and communities, helping to address global challenges related to food security, climate change, and resource conservation.
