Empowering Industry Growth
WHAT WE DO
We are the industry-led hub for Manitoba’s sustainable protein industry.
Manitoba is a global provider of high-quality proteins — our top 10 protein exports surpassed $8 billion dollars in 2022. ProteinMB aims to expand on this growth. Every day we work with industry leaders to promote Manitoba’s strengths, attract new and expanded investment, and show customers our commitment to social, economic, and environmental sustainability.
Manitoba stands as a testament to the adaptability and ingenuity of its agri-food community.
The legacy of Manitoba’s protein industry continues to evolve, driven by a steadfast dedication to sustainable practices, technological innovation, and a deep-rooted connection to the land. Manitoba’s story serves as an inspiration for regions around the world, showcasing the potential for agri-food excellence in the face of ever-changing global demands.
Manitoba boasts vast expanses of fertile soil, making it ideal for growing protein-rich plants and crops. Our high-quality animal protein is highly sought after both domestically and internationally. The province invests in research and development, leading to advancements in protein production techniques that help Manitoba stay at the forefront of the industry.

WHAT IS SUSTAINABLE PROTEIN?
Nourishing Tomorrow, Today!
Sustainable Protein is the initiative, sector, and approach that is responsible for the practices and impacts of agriculture and the food system on the world. Described by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO); Sustainable Protein is a level of production that meets our needs while aspiring to place minimal pressure and impact on the environment, promote all aspects of an individuals health and well being, be accessible and culturally acceptable, and be economically viable and affordable. To be sustainable, the protein value chain must meet the needs of present and future generations, while ensuring profitability, environmental health, and social and economic equity.
In Manitoba, animal, plant, insect, and cellular proteins when produced sustainably can complement each other to address global food security. Overall, sustainable protein is a critical component of a balanced diet that aligns with ecological stewardship and ethical treatment of animals and communities, helping to address global challenges related to food security, climate change, and resource conservation.
Sustainable Protein Advantage Strategy
Strategic Areas of Protein
It does take a community. A diverse, committed group is responsible for the ongoing development of each of the strategy’s areas:

Agriculture in the Classroom-Manitoba is excited to see the Protein MB networking tool and hub come together. As a non-profit organization with a vision of every Manitoba student being agriculturally-literate, having a strong workforce in Manitoba Agriculture for students to graduate into is important. This will happen thanks to a hub where multiple entities working in the sustainable workforce space communicate, converse, and develop future leaders.
